ARIIA Knowledge and Implementation Hub

ARIIA has an ambitious program of work designed to support increasing the capability of the aged care workforce to deliver high-quality care to older Australians. The Knowledge and Implementation Hub (KIH) is an important part of ARIIA’s plans. The Hub is bringing together aged care evidence, tools and practice resources for use by the aged care staff and by aged care services. Importantly, we are not only finding these resources but also appraising them for their quality and relevance so you can trust what you find on the Hub. Access to evidence is the first step in its use.

We have a skilled and passionate team building the Hub and have benefited from the generous contribution of academic experts and aged care experts. We are looking forward to seeing the aged care topics list grow and to releasing new pages that offer research and project supports. But most of all we are looking forward to working with the sector in finding, building, and sharing new evidence that will make a difference to the care we provide. We invite researchers, aged care staff, service providers and policy makers to connect with aged care’s growing evidence base to improve care and outcomes and support growth, change and innovation in the sector.

What you can find on the Hub

Although the Hub is only six months old, there is already a wealth of information that be found on the site. We have evidence on seven aged care priority topics as well as a curated collection of over 600 resources providing practical supports on these topics. We will also be adding more aged care priority topics in the next year and developing support materials on other issues affecting growth and change in aged care.

You can find out about the structure and plans for the Knowledge and Implementation Hub in our PDF document titled About the Knowledge and Implementation Hub. Please feel free to share it with others in your team.

Getting started with the Hub

If the idea of evidence is new to you, start with our module 'What is evidence in aged care?’ This module highlights what we mean by evidence and why it matters. We currently have two modules available but will be adding new ones introducing key concepts in the coming months.

What is evidence and why it matters in aged care?

We all want an aged care sector that provides high-quality care that is safe, effective, and capable of meeting the unique physical, psychological, and social needs of each person in its care. But how do we know which care approaches and practices can help the aged care workforce achieve this standard? And how can we ensure quality care. Read more >

Best evidence: the ARIIA review collection

Research evidence continues to be an excellent source of information to guide practice. Here are some of the latest systematic reviews published on aged care priority topics.

Behind the scenes

There is a small but mighty team behind The Hub who work enthusiastically in identifying, appraising, and reviewing the evidence as well as scanning for relevant resources. We also benefit from the contributions of researchers, aged care staff and providers as well as community members. We would like to thank and acknowledge all the members of our Evidence Advisory Groups and their invaluable contribution to the success of the Hub.

Evidence in the Making

ARIIA has awarded the first set of grants addressing critical issues in aged care. We look forward to reporting on the findings of the following research projects:

How can the Hub support you in your work?

The Hub provides access to research evidence and quality resources on common aged care topics. Whatever your role in the aged care sector--service provider, nurse, allied health professional, or aged care worker--you will find valuable information for your practice. Even older people and their family and friends may find some useful information in the Hub. However, we know that to create change we need to understand what processes can support change. In future KnowledgeConnect editions, we will be working with the translation research team to provide case studies on implementing change into aged care.

How you can support the Hub

All of you have knowledge, skills and insights about aged care and how we can use evidence to change practice. We would like to invite you to share your research projects, suggest resources related to the aged care topics, offer to write a Knowledge Blog, or indicate your willingness to be involved with one of the Evidence Advisory Groups. You can also provide feedback in one of the various response forms within the Knowledge and Implementation Hub.

We are keen to build a community of knowledge practitioners who not only build the knowledge base but support its use in practice. Email us at kih@ariia.org.au and share your knowledge and insights.
